Our Program
St. Paul’s Nursery School offers a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum, that is guided by the Connecticut Early Learning & Development Standards, and Connecticut State Preschool Assessment Framework.  Our day provides both teacher-directed and child-initiated activities to promote learning in the areas of personal and social, physical, cognitive and creative development.  We plan, with flexibility of schedule in mind, to meet and enhance the individual needs of our children.  We offer children choices among a variety of materials and equipment through which to explore and discover.  We recognize and respect that children are different culturally and developmentally.  We provide problem-solving experiences that facilitate concept formation, language development, resiliency, executive function, self-regulation and sensory discrimination. We provide creative experiences, which allow children, the opportunity to develop and express their own ideas and feelings in all parts of the program, including but not limited to:
  • Large muscle equipment both inside and outdoors
  • Large and fine motor activities
  • Art activities employing a variety of media
  • Musical activities
  • Dramatic play areas
  • Manipulative toys
  • Block building activities
  • Sensory activities
  • Read-aloud stories and individual reading experiences with books, poems, stories and songs
  • Language learning experiences to promote spontaneous conversation, in small and large groups
  • Exploration, observation and discovery activities
  • Field trips
  • Experiences to promote independence and build self-esteem such as toileting, care of possessions, shared group responsibility for equipment and materials
  • Health education experiences to model good health practices, sound nutrition and safety awareness
  • Individual, small and large group activities
  • Active and quiet play, rest activities

PARENT TESTIMONIAL
"Thank you for making my children feel safe, respected, and loved each day. And thank you for being a part of our family’s story. Even as we move on, the traditions, the teachers, and the lessons learned over these years will forever remain in our hearts. Your school has shaped us all. Your grace will continue at our table. And through our memories, our days at your school will live on." Jackie Nastri Bardenwerper
