In the 2's: The children talking about harvest, filling cornucopias and being thankful. In class they'll prepare mashed potatoes. They sing and dance, particularly enjoying marching like dinosaurs and freeze dancing.
In the 3's: The children are celebrating Thanksgiving with their community. They've had homework-to create feathers for a large class turkey who needed decorating. They'll share a communal snack prepared in class including friendship fruit salad, corn muffins and cranberry sauce.
In the 4's: The 4's are also preparing for Thanksgiving. Each class is preparing stuffing and a dessert for our traditional feast! All fours and Pre-K children share a turkey lunch with lots of trimmings, many of which are prepared by them. The children all sit together to share a meal and gratefulness together. The children are also busy creating treats for their home celebrations as well.
In the Pre-K:
Playing with manipulatives is becoming increasingly creative and complex. The children are proud of their creations and ask us to document their vehicles and transformers each day.
Pre-K just finished a study of the Impressionist, Claude Monet. They've created impressions of his lily pad pond and landscapes in a variety of ways, by repeating the resist technique of painting, practicing the dot-dash technique of painting, printing with flowers one day and sweeping paint with credit cards the next. Incidentally, they also explored creating the horizon in their paintings.
