It's been wintery in all our ages!
In the 2's: The children are making snowmen and winter murals. They're enjoying the additional 1/2 hour of play added in January.
In the 3's: The children engaged in a fine motor craft, making sock snowmen which also fostered lots of conversation! There was also snow in the sensory table.
In the 4's: The 4's were talking about winter. All classes read The Mitten by Jan Brett and followed with an activity. 1 class used their mitten activity as a fine motor activity; the children cut all the pieces before assembly. Another class used it as a sequencing activity. The pieces, pre-cut by the teachers, were assembled by the children. Animals were added to the mitten in the order they appeared in the story
In the Pre-K:
The Pre-K, also discussing winter, explored ice! They painted with colored ice on paper, mixing colors. They created stained-glass snowflakes using tissue paper and ice cubes, cold! There was "snow" in the sensory table. They made bowls of fresh and salt water, even tasting salt water to be sure it imitated the ocean. Then, they predicted and observed which froze first, if at all, and how they melted.
